Overwatch 2 community discusses the best supports for tank

In Overwatch 2, if you are playing tank, what is the supports combo you want to be on your team?

Now that we are more than eight years into the life of Overwatch, most players have a good idea of what heroes pair best with others. That said, everyone has their personal favorites pairings. While Ana has strong abilities, not everyone can get good use out of her in a competitive scenario. With that in mind, the Reddit thread below asks Overwatch 2 players what tank they main, and what supports they prefer to have back them up.

Tanks what support do you want?

As expected, answers are generally all over the place, but of course, a lot of this comes down to the tank in question. From what we have seen, Reinhardt players in this thread particularly enjoy having Lifeweaver or Lucio with them. That combination essentially allows them to make Reinhardt a dive tank by speed boosting into the fight and then Lifeweaver pulling them out when things get too hairy. There are also a lot of Kiriko and Ana mentions in there for obvious reasons. We think Dances28 put it best by saying, “Kiriko to bail me out. Ana to screw over the other tank.”

The one consistent response for what supports an Overwatch 2 tank wants is anything but Mercy. That is not surprising. In general, Mercy is better suited for damage heroes. If she can damage boost Sojourn or Widowmaker, they can take down enemies faster. At that point, you’re just looking for the tank not to die. Tanks like to be in the middle of the fight, which is the last place Mercy wants to be.

We think another good shout-out would be Zenyatta for dive tanks. When we play Winston or D.Va, we love having consistent healing at range, even if it’s slower than other options. Plus, Discord Orb is so nice for taking down enemies.

The context in every match matters. If you are playing a tank in Overwatch 2, we recommend communicating with your support to make sure you are playing the best combo possible for that situation.
