The latest Overwatch 2 Quick Play Hacked test has ended and wielded some divisive opinions. Pickable passives in Overwatch 2 allowed players to choose one of three possible passive abilities to apply to their chosen role. Regardless if you were a Tank, Damage, or Support hero, you had a choice from three abilities in the background that could give you a slight boost.
Now that players have had a chance to play with pickable passives in Overwatch 2, reactions have been mixed, to say the least. We posted on various community forums to see what the consensus was and got a lot of different answers.
Those who disliked pickable passives in Overwatch 2 stated their concerns about balancing the game in the future. This is a fair point, considering role role passives already in play have been scrutinized. Others said they didn’t like how it changed certain heroes, and they wished they could see what enemies chose for their passive. In every match, you have a good idea of how to attack the enemy team, but this one area was a secret, so we can understand that argument as well.
On the more positive side, some saw potential in the feature. They thought it would be good to have more variety in how you approach characters. Theories said that the system could be used to fight counter-picking or shake up metas, though we imagine there would be a meta around the passives themselves.
In all, reactions to Overwatch 2 pickable passives are all over the place. With a community that is always very outspoken on changes made to the game, that’s to be expected. Whether anything comes out of these playtests, we will see, but it will be interesting to see how the game is affected by it.
