Overwatch 2 is implementing a new set of rules for its standard gameplay this weekend with Quick Play: Hacked – Quicker Play. Running throughout this weekend, all normal unranked games will be sped up as a testing ground to see what players like and what could potentially be permanently implemented in the future. Here is the list of changes:
- Respawn times are 25% faster
- Payloads move 60% faster
- In Hybrid and Control, taking control of a point is 40% faster
- In Control, scoring progress on the point is 80% faster
- In Flashpoint, taking control of the point is 20% faster, with scoring progress being 40% faster
- Escort, Hybrid, and Push maps’ initial match times are reduced by 70%
If you are worried about your competitive games being all thrown out of whack over the weekend, have no fear. These changes will only be implemented in Role Queue and Open Queue Quick Play and will return to normal after Sunday.
Blizzard must really be interested in getting as much feedback as possible, as when it would do test game modes like this in the past, it would put it in an Experimental Play area, though those were more focused on possible hero changes. If it were to put this in Arcade, it also wouldn’t get as much testing from players. That says to us that it is seriously considering big changes in how Overwatch works on a base level.
We are interested to see how these faster matches work. We don’t really believe that the length of Overwatch matches is the problem at the moment, rather it is how people are able to stay in the action. When Mauga was released, every match crawled to a halt and became dependent on which Mauga in the game could outlast the other. Now that he has been nerfed, we’re not as worried about the pace of play being slow. Regardless, Quick Play: Hacked – Quicker Play and other test sessions in the future should have an interesting effect on the game.
