All over the world, cows are subjected to a common practice. This practice involves clipping a ring to their nostrils that pierces the septum, a partition that separates the nasal passages. While many may think this practice is simple and non-abusive, the truth is quite the opposite. For this reason, PETA, the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, has written a formal letter to Nintendo requesting that the Moo Moo, or Cow racer, have its nose ring clipped and removed in future races in Mario Kart World.
PETA Demands the Moo Moo’s Nose Ring be Removed
Recently, the organization known as PETA sent a letter to Nintendo in regards to the Moo Moo racer in Mario Kart World. The letter was posted on the organization’s website as well. This letter, addressed to Mr. Furukawa – the president of Nintendo – requests that Nintendo remove the nose ring from the Cow racer in Mario Kart World.
The letter informs Mr. Furukawa that “Nose rings are used by the meat and dairy industries to exploit, control, and even drag animals to their deaths.” It also informs the Nintendo president that the “brass rings are crudely stabbed through the sensitive septum of cows and bulls, which can cause lasting pain and discomfort.”
This is another attempt that PETA has made to change video games. Previously, the organization released a statement about Palworld, requesting that a “vegan guide” be written for the game for those who want to avoid capturing animals. Even more statements have been made about past games, such as Pokémon.
PETA states that the “brass ring in Cow’s nose glosses over real-world violence and cruelty to animals.” It is for this reason that they are “asking [Furukawa] to give this beloved bovine a small but meaningful upgrade” by “removing the nose ring.” They ended the letter by saying that Cow should “race freely without any painful reminders of the industries that treat animals like profit-making machines.”
