It seems that the Spear is a cursed weapon in Helldivers 2. After all, it seems to have some sort of new issue after each patch. Originally, the weapon had problems targeting foes but when it worked, it worked. Thanks to complaints about the weapon, it was added to the massive update that added over 100 changes and fixes to the game. With this update, the Spear’s targeting system was supposed to be fixed. To the surprise of many players, the targeting system did get fixed but it also got broken at the same time.
With the massive update, the Spear lost the ability to target fabricators. With a small hotfix, the Spear’s power was restored but it once again broke in a new way. The weapon has broken to the point where it has become a meme that even the community managers recognize. We could now be seeing another hotfix this week aimed to “perform a Spear exorcism” and cleanse it of its bad juju.
On the Helldivers 2 Discord server, community manager Twinbear stated, “Pray to the diver gods, perform a Spear exorcism, say 100 hail Liberty and hope that High Command and Ministry of Defence manage to produce a hotfix. (Maybe even next week.)”
Twinbeard posted this comment on Friday the 21st, the same day the Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree DLC was released. He later said that it could come over the weekend but since that didn’t happen, it seems we could be getting the hotfix sometime this week. If the update pattern for Helldivers 2 stays consistent, we will most likely see the hotfix appear on Tuesday or Thursday this week. That is June 25 or June 27.
The two main focuses for this hotfix will most likely be the Spear (as stated by Twinbeard) and the Ballistic Shield. Lately, the Spear has been causing the game to crash when players aim it at specific areas like the side of a charger and the Ballistic Shield has been giving players issues with movement, coordination, and blocking attacks.
