Respawn Entertainment have canceled an unannounced multiplayer first-person shooter game, with members of the team posting they are looking for new work on LinkedIn. Emilee Evans, who says she worked on the incubation project for the last year and was at the studio for six years, says the cancellation happened earlier this week.
What was the canceled Respawn game?
As of this writing, not much is known about this ill-fated game, though it is believed to have been a new IP, so not connected to Star Wars, Apex Legends, or Titanfall. Like when discussing eggs, an incubation project or team is something that is being worked on in its very early stages, so who can say whether or not this project would have been a great game or not. There are online job postings since 2021 from Respawn looking for employees that could be for this canceled game, but could have also been something completely different as it changed along the way.
It’s not necessarily shocking to hear that Respawn Entertainment are looking to make a new first-person shooter multiplayer game. While they have seen great success with the Star Wars: Jedi games, they are best known for Apex Legends, Titanfall, and the founders of this studio had significant roles in Call of Duty back in the day. Probably the most interesting thing is that this had nothing to do with Apex or Titanfall, which are set in the same universe. Of course, people will cry out that there’s still no apparent plans for Titanfall 3, which is rumored to have been canceled years ago as well.
While we don’t know the exact reasons why the canceled Respawn game was axed, it doesn’t mean it was because of quality. Like so many other gaming companies, it is very possible that EA canceled this game to cut costs. Unless some insider knowledge comes out, we may never know.
