Scalpers are a constant plague on the community of collectors. Every time there is some limited edition item for sale, they swarm in – sometimes with special tools, to nab the items and sell them for exorbitant prices. Many have complained about this and in response, some sites have taken measures to make the purchase of these items more fair. Others have even made it a point to only sell limited edition items in-store. With that being said, the PS5 Pro 30th Anniversary Edition console has yet to be released and some scalpers are already trying to sell the console bundle on eBay for absurd amounts.
Typically, resellers get their hands on these limited edition items and then sell them for around double or triple the original value. However, because of the severely limited number of PS5 Pro Anniversary Edition consoles, some have decided to more than triple the console’s value. Most reservations for the console bundle are being offered on eBay for around $2,800. Some have taken the leap to hit around $3,000 or even up to $4,000.
One eBay user is even attempting to sell the bundle for $10,000. There are even some in the UK trying to sell the system for $13,000 USD. What was once a normal price increase has skyrocketed to price gouging over the limited edition bundle. At the time of writing this, the console has not gone on sale in the United States; instead, it has been sold in other countries such as Britain and Australia. The bundle will be sold on the PlayStation Direct Store at 10am EDT.
Sony has taken some measures to prevent scalpers from getting their hands on the console by making the queue randomized. This makes it so everyone has a fair shot at getting the console. If you have yet to join the queue and want to get your hands on the console, get ready for a fight.
