The Darkness at the Brink of Ohio is an innovative TTRPG from Game And a Curry, LLC. This one-player TTRPG is horror-themed, where an included soundtrack and a journal are major elements that drive the storyline. The Kickstarter has an initial goal of $8,000. Currently with 189 backers and 24 days to go, it has already reached $7,475 in pledges.

You can make a low-dollar amount pledge simply to lend your support with no associated reward. At $15 you get a digital PDF copy of the game. At $30 you can get a digital copy and a physical copy if you live in the U.S. or Canada. At $50 you get both the physical and digital copies in addition to the Brinkfest Journal and an Infernal Brewery beer koozie. Higher tiers get you more fun rewards like a t-shirt, printed photos, a signed poster, and more. Digital copies are expected to be distributed October of 2024, with physical copies distributed March of 2025.

The Darkness at the Brink of Ohio is a solo horror journaling game with a soundtrack. It’s about a local radio show in the surrounding area of Akron, Ohio that was heard across the state before it happened. DJ Mike from 106.6 The Brink was doing his late night show when something strange took over, causing a terrible event to befall its listeners. You are playing one of the listeners who was working the late night shift. You are documenting your work in a journal while hearing DJ Mike undergo his transformation into something beyond this realm. This game uses a soundtrack for you to listen to while you journal and answer prompts. – from the Kickstarter description page

The game comes with a 100+ page illustrated book to guide you through the story. You choose from one of three different characters to play as. The characters include the Clinical Lab Technician, the Gas Station Attendant, and the Security Guard. The game deals with psychological horror themes, parasocial relationships, body horror, and hypervisibility within a small fanbase.

If you enjoy solo-play games that let you take a deep dive into the mind, then Darkness at the Brink of Ohio is the TTRPG for you! Just be careful if you listen to the cursed song . . .
