For the first time in a very long time, the newest hero in Overwatch is being teased in-game. Space Ranger is known to be the next Overwatch 2 playable character in Season 12, but we haven’t heard about her since BlizzCon last year when she was initially teased with concept art. Now, if you are in the initial attackers’ spawn room on the Dorado map, you will see a space pod in the middle of the room.

This isn’t the first time we’ve been teased of Space Ranger in Overwatch 2, though many might not have noticed. Since the start of Season 11, maps that are on the United States west coast have had a blue comet shooting through the sky, looking like it was coming towards earth. Hollywood, Route 66, and Blizzard World all had this comet. Now, that comet is known to be the drop-pod of Space Ranger and has landed in Dorado, Mexico.

While the existence of the drop-pod is cool enough, there are also a couple of hints to their backstory. Inside the pod, you can find a picture of Space Ranger alongside Mei.

There is also a Morse code message when you stand near it. It has been translated to say:

J HAS LANDED

ATTEMPTING TRANSMISSION TO RPT

AWAITING RESPONSE

The letter “J” may refer to the character’s real name, Jiayi. She is known to have been good friends with Mei in grad school and later took a job with Lucheng Interstellar from the Lijiang Tower map. Of course, it could be a different name, but hopefully, we’ll know more soon. As of this writing, we are unsure what “RPT” is referring to.

As stated at the beginning of this article, it’s been a while since we got an in-game tease for a new hero. Characters like Doomfist and Orisa had their releases teased in the Numbani map before they came out, but lately, we might get something in a trailer. We love seeing the direction move back towards in-game.
