Paizo plans to launch its official second edition rulebook for its science fantasy RPG Starfinder at GenGon this year. This is meant to bring its classic game into compatibility with its new Pathfinder Roleplaying Game 2E rules. Ready to get fan feedback to perfect the product, Paizo will make a playtest adventure available on August 1, 2024.
The adventure, titled A Cosmic Birthday, will have players being first-level characters investigating an outpost. The party is trying to stop a cult-like group from hijacking the power source at the Ghost Levels of Absalom Station. During the adventure, the party will end up trapped in the Ghost Levels and must survive power surges, dangerous creatures, and cosmic horrors. This adventure will feature the return of some fan-favorite creatures from the first edition rules revised for 2E.

A nascent cosmic entity stirs deep within one of the Pact Worlds planets. To aid the god’s birth, its most devoted followers search the Ghost Levels of Absalom Station for a sufficient power source—a strange pocket dimension existing alongside the hub of the Pact Worlds. As the entity’s emergence sends ripples across space time, a group of heroes becomes trapped in the Ghost Levels! With dangerous creatures and ominous power surges threatening the station, the heroes must team up with the residents of Little Akiton to investigate these horrifying new foes, stop their meddling—and stay alive! – product description page on Paizo’s website
The Starfinder 2E playtest rulebook will also feature six new character classes, ten ancestries, new skills, new features, and new equipment. The rulebook is expected to be 264 pages, but A Cosmic Birthday will simply be a step-in point and basic introduction into 2E. It will feature dungeon crawling fun and narrative-focused sandbox adventures.
Following A Cosmic Birthday, players can provide feedback via surveys to help shape the future of Starfinder. This book will be available for pre-order in mid-July at a price of $24.99. Pre-orders will be available through Paizo’s website.
