A Super Mario Party Jamboree overview trailer has dove deeper into the game, showing off what you can expect from the game as it releases next month. With no big Nintendo Direct taking place in September as we await word on the Switch 2, Nintendo has been uploading trailers for its upcoming games on a schedule. This trailer details new boards, multiplayer play, mini-games, and more.
Super Mario Party Jamboree boards
There are seven boards in Super Mario Party Jamboree:
- Mega Wiggler’s Tree Party – A giant wiggler sits in the middle and rotates when a bell is rung. It is so large that it is a part of the board spaces, and your route will change depending on its placement.
- Roll’em Raceway – Everyone is in racecars (not like Mario Party 9 and 10, thankfully) and go around a track. We don’t know the special events for this board yet.
- Goomba Lagoon – The lower portions of this map will become inaccessible when the tide comes in. If you are down there when it happens, Lakitu will move you somewhere.
- Rainbow Galleria – A mall where items and stars will go on sale for half-price.
- King Bowser’s Keep – A giant Bowser sits in the middle and can turn certain blue spaces into Bowser spaces.
- Western Land – A remade version of the Mario Party 2. A train goes around the outer ring of the board. If you get hit by the train, you go back to the beginning of the board.
- Mario’s Rainbow Castle – A remade version of the original Mario Party board. A small map where the star is routinely swapped out with Bowser in the past. It is unknown if that will be the same function this time around.
Jamboree buddy
Back in Super Mario Party, players could get buddies by landing on a special space or using an item that would follow them around and add to their dice rolls. This time, the buddies are gained from winning a mini-game and will have a special ability to help you depending on the character. For example, Yoshi can copy an enemy item, or Donkey Kong can launch you across the board. Jamboree buddies will also allow you to buy double items and stars, provided you have the coins to purchase the extra one as well.
Super Mario Party Jamboree mini-games and side modes
The Super Mario Party Jamboree overview trailer also revealed the game would feature 110 mini-games. From what we saw, none have returned from past games, but there may be some hidden in there that are similar. With this being Super Mario Party, the game is played with one joy-con controller and sometimes motion controls will be required, so it looks like this will not be a good game for the Switch Lite.
As for side modes, there are quite a few motion control games not attached directly to the main board games. They look to be pretty basic cooperative games if you don’t want always to be facing off against your friends and family. Koopathlon sticks out to us the most as a 20-player battle royale as you run through mini-games and collect coins. Hopefully, that and Bowser Kaboom Squad can provide fun side experiences.
