The social media platform X, formerly Twitter, is seeing a large influx of Miiverse-inspired reactions. People are posting images that the Nintendo service used to leave reactions to people’s posts. There were various iterations of Yeah, but of course, with this being the internet, many other variants are making their way around featuring various Nintendo characters and phrases.
The Elon Musk-led burning ship recently announced that X was immediately making all likes private. Now, whenever you go to hit the heart button on a post, only the person who posted the tweet will know you specifically liked it. All outside parties will just see the like number go up, with no way to view what any other profile has liked, and your likes will no longer be broadcasted on people’s feeds.
If you are unfamiliar with Miiverse, it was Nintendo’s own social media platform for the Wii U and 3DS. There was also a browser version, but the consoles were the main focus. Users could go onto a game’s community and draw posts or share accomplishments for other players to see and react to. Obviously, they could comment, but instead of a “Like” or “Heart,” you could “Yeah” to show your approval. Miiverse was shut down in November 2017 and was never compatible with the Nintendo Switch.
Miiverse Yeahs popping up on Twitter years after the service was ended doesn’t mean that this is the new way to boost popularity, but it is a pretty funny meme. The posting of these Yeahs will likely die down soon, but we have to say this is one of the funnier passive-aggressive ways people are letting their dissatisfaction with Elon Musk be known while still showing their support of various posts.
