The story follows the talkative and rebellious cleric Taliesin as he is dragged back as a prisoner to the cult he escaped from. It also features major characters in the duel-wielding dark dwarf Ruuda, the analytical crystalmancer Jasita, and the good-natured brawler Sen. Nearly the entire book takes place in the vast underground world known as the Deep Hollows.
