“Everyone is here…and their Amiibo too!” reads a post from Nintendo of America on X after the official release of the Sora Super Smash Bros. Amiibo figure. That’s right, Nintendo has officially brought an end to the Super Smash Bros. Amiibo Line after almost 10 years. With an impressive stock of 94 Amiibo, we can finally say a solemn goodbye to an era that lasted almost a decade.
It all began on November 21, 2014. That is when the first Amiibo figures were released in North America. These included Donkey Kong, Fox, Kirby, Link, Mario, Marth, Princess Peach, Pikachu, Villager, Samus, Wii Fit Trainer, and Yoshi. This sparked a collection frenzy and soon it was difficult to find Amiibo on any shelves across the world. After this, more and more waves started popping up and even more characters started appearing in the Smash Bros. games.
If you are counting them out, yes all 94 figures appear in the image posted on the official Nintendo of America X account. If you are wondering if 94 characters seems a bit high for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, you’d be right. That is if you are only counting the official characters. Many of the figures almost represent alternate character skins. For instance, there are two variants of Cloud – one for player 1 and one for player 2. The same was also done for the Pokémon Trainer. After all, Nintendo needed to capture the likenesses of Squirtle, Ivysaur, and Charizard.
For all of those who have been around since the start of this era, we are officially getting older. Hopefully, you were able to finish out your collection by getting your hands on the Sora Amiibo that was released on February 16, 2024. If not, there may be a restock so remain hopeful. Now Nintendo will get to start a new line of Amiibo once the next Super Smash Bros. game is released with the Switch 2.
