The wait is finally over as fans who have been begging to learn more about the Nintendo Switch 2 have finally had their prayers answered. Nintendo has officially made the announcement about the Nintendo Switch 2 and when we will see a Nintendo Direct showcasing the system in all its glory. For months, fans have been begging Nintendo for the announcement and the trailer does not disappoint.

Leaks have been going wild for the Nintendo Switch 2 – so much so that Nintendo should hire a different plumber other than Mario. Earlier this week, YouTuber NateTheHate posted about the announcement and many thought that it would not be shown.

Nintendo unveils Nintendo Switch 2 announcement trailer

Nintendo released the announcement trailer for the Nintendo Switch 2 at around 8am ET on Thursday, January 16, 2025. The system looks exactly like leaks that came out about the console over the past few months with black Joy-Con controllers mixed with orange and blue accents. As showcased in the trailer, the Joy-Con controllers also appear to move like a computer mouse across a surface which is something that fans predicted would happen after seeing what appeared to be an optical sensor in a recent leak.

Don’t think that this is everything Nintendo has planned as the trailer also points out that we will get to see more later this year. At the end of the trailer, Nintendo added a tag that shows we will get more information about the Nintendo Switch 2 with an official Nintendo Direct on April 2, 2025. It is also confirmed that most Nintendo Switch games will be compatible with the Nintendo Switch 2. As stated at the end of the trailer, “Nintendo Switch 2 plays both physical and digital Nintendo Switch games. Certain Nintendo Switch games may not be supported on or fully compatible with Nintendo Switch 2.”

If you are interested in getting your hands on the Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo will be holding a series of events around the world for fans to get a look at the console after the Nintendo Direct. These include events in New York, Los Angeles, Dallas, Toronto, Paris, London, Milan, Berlin, Madrid, Amsterdam, Melbourne, and across South Korea and Japan. Fans can finally rest easy knowing that the Nintendo Switch 2 is almost here.
