In case you missed it, an in-depth look at the Joy-Cons for the Nintendo Switch 2 was recently leaked. In the images, someone holds one of the Joy-Con controllers, giving everyone views of the front, back, and inside edge. Many already knew about the features shown in the images. Well… most of the features that is. One feature of the controller that has stood out to many is a sensor on the inside edge of the Nintendo Switch 2 Joy-Con. Many believe this to be an Optical sensor.

Leaks have been spreading like wildfire for the Nintendo Switch 2. Many content creators have been saying they have inside knowledge the system will be revealed this month. This has yet to be confirmed but companies with knowledge of the system are getting bolder – posting their Nintendo Switch 2 cases before the console’s official reveal.

Nintendo Switch 2 Joy-Con controllers may have Optical sensor

The recent Nintendo Switch 2 Joy-Con leak was posted to Reddit by user SwordfishAgile3472. This leak is said to have come from a Chinese social networking service. Interestingly enough, when the serial number for the controller is put into Nintendo’s website, it recognizes the serial number – seemingly confirming that this is indeed the real Switch 2 Joy-Con.

One feature that many have pointed out is that just below the SL button on the inside track of the controller appears to be an optical sensor. If you aren’t aware, optical sensors are used in motion control and are used in modern computer mice. As such, many individuals are theorizing that the new Joy-Con controllers could be utilized as a mouse. One such video was posted by Reddit user RNOWONG with the caption, “If the speculation is true, it’s not bad at all.”

One of the reasons for the “mouse-like” functionality of the Joy-Con that some have theorized is for games like Mario Maker or The Sims – allowing players to more accurately select objects in an environment without worrying about selecting something they didn’t intend to. This could be very useful for Disney Dreamlight Valley as well thanks to the somewhat poor functionality of the decorating system.
