Unless you have been living under a rock for the past few months, you are most likely aware of the various leaks about the Nintendo Switch 2. It feels like everyone has information about Nintendo’s upcoming system from leakers to big corporations. Recently, to everyone’s amazement, accessory manufacturer Genki revealed a model of the Nintendo Switch 2 at CES 2025. At first, Genki stated that the Switch 2 model was “based on a Switch 2 system it had seen.” Now, the the company is singing a different tune and Nintendo’s lawyers may have gotten involved.

Case manufacturers aren’t the only ones leaking information about the Nintendo Switch 2. Recently, a GameStop employee posted about Nintendo Switch 2 SKUs being added to the company’s system. Unfortunately, the only thing that Nintendo has announced is a LEGO Gameboy.

Genki backtracks on statement about the Nintendo Switch 2 model

Genki revealed its model of the Nintendo Switch 2 at CES 2025 to the amazement of many fans eagerly waiting for the system to be released. At the time, IGN reached out to Genki and an official told the outlet in an interview that the model was “based on a Switch 2 system it had seen and used as the basis for its accessories.” Unfortunately, the company has now backtracked on this. In an interview with the Japanese publication Game*Spark, a representative from Genki stated that the model and cover were “planned and produced based on leaked information from the industry.”

Since the statement, Nintendo also made a statement about the appearance of the CES 2025 model. In an interview with Sankei, a Nintendo official stated that “the images and videos are not official.” Of course, the story doesn’t stop there as one journalist claims that Nintendo stepped in and confronted Genki at CES.

Nintendo may have confronted Genki

According to Julien Tellouck, gaming journalist and TV host on GAME ONE, Nintendo confronted Genki at CES 2025. The French journalist posted a YouTube Short about the matter. While we do not speak French, part of the translation from the comments reads, “I discussed with the people from Genki behind me and they told me that Nintendo came by there with lawyers.” Tellouck goes on to say that Genki told him “They aren’t to blame because they never signed any NDAs.” This undoubtedly puts the accessories manufacturer in some rather hot water.
