Nintendo has officially revealed everything players have wanted to know about the Switch 2 and pre-orders start soon. Instead of being met with thunderous applause, however, Nintendo has been met with severe backlash. Consumers from all over the internet have been voicing their concerns about different aspects of the Switch 2 from the poor battery life that doesn’t match the previous console’s to the addition of a paid pack-in title.
One of the biggest issues that players have with Nintendo’s next console is the price which has been set at $450 or $500 if you get the Mario Kart World bundle. The games are officially set at around $70 with some of them going as high as $80. Physical copies are being priced even higher than this. To make matters even worse, the pre-order date for the Switch 2, which was set for April 9, 2025, has officially been pushed back.
Nintendo Switch 2 US pre-orders pushed back
Earlier today, popular videogame retailer GameStop posted on its X account about a delay to the Nintendo Switch 2 pre-order date. The statement reads, “Pre-orders for Nintendo Switch 2 in the U.S. will not start April 9, 2025, in order to assess the potential impact of tariffs and evolving market conditions. Nintendo will update timing at a later date. The launch date of June 5, 2025, is unchanged.” This, of course, refers to the tariffs placed on various countries by U.S. President Donald Trump on April 2, 2025.

The tariffs could potentially drive up the cost of the Nintendo Switch 2 as well, increasing the price from $450 to upwards of $550. The price is still currently unknown as Nintendo has not stated what the price increase will be or if there will even be one. It is important to note, however, that other countries will still have the pre-orders become available on April 9, 2025.
