Borderlands 4 received some great reviews at launch, with many of those who received early copies saying the game was a great return to the days of Borderlands 2. Many agreed that the darker tone of the story, combined with the many quality of life changes to the gameplay, made for a great experience. Unfortunately, once the public got their hands on the game, they quickly noticed countless bugs and glitches that made the game more of a slog to get through than anything else. Now, one month later, the Borderlands 4 player count has dropped dramatically, and the game is already on sale on Steam.
Borderlands 4 Player Count Drops, and it Goes on Sale
At launch, Borderlands 4 saw a massive concurrent player count on Steam of just over 300,000 players. The all-time peak, which happened in September, was 304,398, according to Steamdb. Unfortunately, the game is now seeing 24-hour peaks of around 37,000 players, a far different number than was seen at launch.
The drop in player count is most likely attributed to the countless issues players have been experiencing. For instance, some have dealt with countless crashes, while others have had stuttering, frame drops, and numerous issues with co-op. We even experienced disappearing loot and had to reset our skill points on multiple occasions.
While this drop in player count is going on, Borderlands 4 is seeing its first sale, where it is currently 20% off. For the time being, you can purchase the game for $55, a fairly decent price drop from the original $70 price tag.
Normally, a price drop like this wouldn’t be surprising, but this comes only a month into the game’s life. What makes this drop more surprising is the comments made by Pitchford before Borderlands 4 was released. Over the summer, the CEO stated that the game wouldn’t receive a good discount for a long time after the release.
