Pokémon Legends: Z-A has been on everyone’s mind over the last week, and many have jumped into the game to start catching their favorite pokémon. The sales of the game contrast greatly with the reception, as many have shared criticisms of the game along with the developers GameFreak and Nintendo. Legends Z-A has been criticized due to its lack of design, poor operation, and easy gameplay. While there are many who are praising the game, it has become clear from many review sites that the negatives far outweigh the positives in this instance. On top of all of this, Pokémon still has not beaten the record set by its competitor, Palworld.
Pokémon Legends: Z-A Sales Cross One Million
In a statement released to the press on October 24, 2025, The Pokémon Company confirmed that Pokémon Legends: Z-A has sold 5.8 million copies since its release date of October 16. Here we are about 10 days later, and that number might have crossed 6 million. According to other outlets, Pokémon Legends: Z-A sold around 4.3 million copies worldwide in its first week.
These numbers are surprising when you consider the amount of backlash the game has received since launch. While many websites and critics praised the game, fans were quick to attack, calling out GameFreak for poor textures, a boring city, horrible Mega Evolution designs, and a lackluster story. Many questioned how GameFreak could sell a game like this in 2025 with a map small enough that you can run the circumference of it in around six minutes.
Pokémon Still Hasn’t Beaten Palworld
You might be wondering how Pokémon Legends: Z-A is standing up to Palworld – the infamous game that was labeled “Pokémon with guns.” Well, during its first week, Palworld sold around 8 million copies, making it one of the largest indie games ever created. Now, the game is sitting at around 32 million sales. In comparison, Pokémon has still not lived up to its unofficial competitor.
