Ready Player One is getting a battle royale called Open and it just got its first trailer. Earlier this year, Readyverse Studios announced “The Readyverse” – a platform for Metaverse games. Its first project has officially been announced and it comes in the form of a battle royale called Open set in the Ready Player One universe. Finally, we have a property that could potentially rival Fortnite for the number of cameos in a single game. After all, Ready Player One was nothing short of a cameo-filled marvel.

For those of you who don’t know, Ready Player One is a book written by Earnest Cline. This book was later turned into a movie directed by Stephen Spielberg. Now, Ready Player One is getting a battle royale. Open is a third-person battle royale that has players competing against one another in game-show-styled modes that feature gameplay elements such as shooting, driving, and more.

The trailer itself doesn’t reveal anything about the gameplay of Open but instead shows off some interesting elements that the IP could incorporate. For instance, the trailer opens with Wade Watts (A.K.A. Parzival) walking through Aech’s workshop. Where the normal Iron Giant robot would be seen is not what appears to be a massive Halo Spartan-style robot. After this, the main protagonist of the series walks past the DeLorean from Back to the Future before finally reaching a retro Atari system plugged into an old-school TV.

Putting out thinking caps on, we believe that other fun gameplay elements we could see include giant robot fights, dance battles at the Distracted Globe, and perhaps even an isometric horror game based on The Shining. There is no telling what cameos we could see going into this game but we are excited for anything. The real question is, are you ready?
