Modern Resident Evil games tend to have a section where there is no combat, which often has the protagonist exploring a piece of the environment before ultimately running into danger at the end. We have seen this play out in Resident Evil 7, where Ethan explores the residence for a while, and again in Resident Evil 8, where Ethan explores part of the village before chaos ensues. Well, one of these sequences was supposed to be in the Resident Evil 4 Remake, but it was unfortunately cut before the game’s release. Thankfully, a fan has restored this section of the Resident Evil 4 Remake titled “Chapter 0.”
Resident Evil 4 Fan Restores Cut Chapter 0
YouTuber TheKempy recently discovered that there is a cut chapter in the Resident Evil 4 Remake that allowed you to play as Ashley in a non-combat zone. The YouTuber restored the chapter for everyone to see, referring to it as “Chapter 0.”
According to TheKempy, the chapter started at night with Ashley wandering the woods and discovering the locals performing a ritual sacrifice. The second trailer for the Resident Evil 4 Remake revealed this ritual sacrifice, and another trailer for the game showcased a scene where Ashley is running through the woods. After witnessing the ritual, Ashley would then proceed to run through a wooded area.
The location of this chapter is not accessible in the normal game, but according to TheKempy, it would have been next to the Forest Altar and Lakeside Settlement sections of the map. With the sequence mostly restored, the chapter would have involved Ashley wandering through the woods, avoiding the Ganado, and eventually climbing into a shack. Afterward, she runs through a tunnel and the woods with the Ganado chasing her, which culminates in her being captured. This then leads to her being in her scripted location for Leon later in the game.
It is very interesting to see that Ashley would have had a little more involvement in the Resident Evil 4 Remake. Perhaps Capcom will release the cut level later on, but for now, it remains dead and buried, only brought back with little functionality.
