Should you choose a Battle-Ready Dweller or a Fresh Dweller in Fallout 76? This choice will have lasting consequences throughout the game and will impact how you play. Depending on the choice you make, you will either start off at level 2 or level 20. While it might sound good to start off at a higher level, there is an impact that you could see from this. Make sure you know all of the information before you leave Vault 76. So, should you choose a Battle-Ready Dweller or a Fresh Dweller in Fallout 76?

Should you start at level 2 or level 20 in Fallout 76?

We think that it is better to start the game as a fresh dweller if you are new to the game. This will allow you to get the best experience. The game has a good tutorial that walks you through the basics of crafting, choosing your S.P.E.C.I.A.L Stats, and starting a build. If you are new to the game, this information is pretty vital and will allow you to get better adapted to life in the Appalachian wastelands. However, if you aren’t new to the game and want to just make a new character, we recommend starting at level 20 as a battle-ready dweller. This will allow you to choose a decent loadout off the bat and you can always alter your stats later on.

What is the difference between a Battle-Ready Dweller and a Fresh Dweller in Fallout 76?

The biggest difference is the level. A battle-ready dweller starts the game at level 20 and already has a loadout of perks to help them succeed. A fresh dweller, on the other hand, starts at level 2 and begins the game with fewer items and experience. Let’s break down more of the differences below.

Fresh Dweller

If you choose to be a fresh dweller, you will get to choose between five different options. These include Slugger, Inspirational, Action Dweller, Gunslinger, and First Aid. This choice is to choose which stat you want to give a point to right away and which perk you want. The different selections are the names of the perks you will get and will affect your strength, charisma, agility, or intelligence. Surprisingly, you don’t get to choose options for perception, luck, or endurance. You can change these stat choices later on but first you need to complete a few missions and maybe track down a Brahmin or two to get a meal.

If you are a battle-ready dweller, you get to choose between five differe loadouts. These all include various S.P.E.C.I.A.L stats and perk loadouts. You get to choose between commando, slugger, gunslinger, shotgunner, and specialist. Depending on your choice, you will have a different stat arrangement. For instance, the gunglinger build mainly focuses on agility and perception and is great for those who want to use pistols. Slugger, on the other hand, is meant for those who want to use two-handed melee weapons. No matter what choice you make, you can change your stats later on.
