Yacht Club Games is working on a new game in the Shovel Knight series. The franchise and studio has been around for 10 years and in that time the team has released numerous games and DLC in the Shovel Knight universe. They’ve all been set in a 2D art style but fans believe the upcoming game will be 3D. They’ve got one compelling piece of video that may prove it as well.

In the developer’s own game direct titled Yacht Club Games Presents 6.14.24, Designer Sean Velasco revealed a giant hole full of Shovel Knight details. The final shovel of news revealed a new game is being worked on. No footage of the game was shown nor was a title revealed. All we do know that the game is in development.

“We’re committed to crafting an experience that not only honors the Shovel Knight legacy but also pioneers groundbreaking, innovative gameplay mechanics. This isn’t just another sequel – it’s a bold new adventure that will launch Shovel Knight into an entirely new dimension of gaming.” – Sean Velasco

He went on to say that indie studio Yacht Club is not ready to reveal any gameplay, video, or photos yet. The one thing we did get a mention of is that the game will have richer mechanics, fast-paced action, and the familiar classic feel of a Shovel Knight game.

Now, as to why fans believe it will be 3D, we turn to a blink and you miss it scene from the showcase. If you watch closely at the 22:13 – 22:14 mark near the end of the video, the Yacht Club logo shifts to a 3D perspective. In another video linked to the What’s Next for Shovel Knight post on Yacht Club’s website shows it in more detail. Nine whole seconds show the logo moving around in a 3D space.

A few posts on the Shovel Knight Reddit also point to it being set in a 3D world as well. One post was simply titled “Shovel Knight 3D AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA.”

Velasco said there are clues and hints in previous Shovel Knight titles that point to the next game. He pointed out that if you want to figure it out you should play Dig, Pocket Dungeon, and all the games in the Treasure Trove to find hidden details.

Before the official reveal of the new game, Velasco talked about what else players can expect from the developer. Wicked Wishes is coming to Shovel Knight Dig. Shovel Knight Pocket Dungeon is getting the Pocket Dungeon Paradox Pack this summer. There will be new apparel options and merch in the store, and Shovel Knight: Shovel of Hope DX is an enhanced version of the original title.
