One of the first titles released on the PlayStation 5 was the Demon’s Souls Remake. Developed by Bluepoint Games, this title set a standard for games on the PS5, and it was one of the best remakes in recent years. Before the Demon’s Souls Remake, Bluepoint worked on the popular Shadow of the Colossus Remake that was released on the PS4 in 2018. Many have revered the studio’s fantastic work on these remakes, but nothing of note has come from the studio since the Demon’s Souls remake in 2020. Now, it has been announced that Sony will be shutting down Bluepoint Games in March.
Bluepoint Games to be Shut Down in March
First reported by Jason Schreier from Bloomberg, Sony reportedly plans to shut down Bluepoint Games in March of 2026. In a post on his Blue Sky account, Schreier stated, “PlayStation is shutting down Bluepoint Games, the studio responsible for modern remakes of classic games such as Demon’s Souls and Shadow of the Colossus.” He went on to say, “Roughly 70 employees will be impacted by the Bluepoint closure.”

This is yet another wave of layoffs coming in the gaming industry after it was announced that a large group of developers from Wildlight Entertainment were being laid off after working on Highguard.
Bluepoint was working on a live-service God of War title that was ultimately canceled last year in 2025. Schreier stated, “The studio then spent the last year pitching and trying to determine what it would do next.” There were no clear plans from Bluepoint that we have seen, and there is no telling what will happen to the various employees being laid off. We can only hope that they land on their feet and find another studio that will use their expertise to its fullest extent.
