GameStop is putting an end to the “Infinite Money Glitch” spotted by YouTuber RJCmedia earlier this month. This is not the first trick consumers have used to retaliate against GameStop for poor trade-in values, and it certainly won’t be the last. Unfortunately, GameStop is now ending this trick, as the company has released a statement regarding the trade-in process, stating, “The glitch has been patched.” Now, consumers will no longer be able to amass an infinite amount of trade credit using this little loophole in the company’s trade policy, combined with the ongoing promotion.
GameStop Infinite Money Glitch Has Been Patched
Earlier this month, YouTuber RJCmedia shared a video about the “GameStop Infinite Money Glitch.” In the video, he purchased a pre-owned Nintendo Switch 2 for $415. Afterward, he traded the system back in, but used GameStop’s 25% trade bonus promotion to increase the system’s value. When trading the system back into GameStop, he purchased a game for $0.99, triggering the promotion, and making the system’s trade-in value increase from $385 to $472, netting him around $50 in profit with each trade. This also worked with new Switch 2 systems, but netted him a little less.
All of this was done using trade credit, which is how the trick worked. Asking for cash for these systems would have resulted in RJCmedia receiving less than he paid for the consoles.
After revealing this glitch to the world, GameStop quickly took notice and has now issued a statement saying, “Effective immediately, the glitch has been patched. Trade promotions have been updated to ensure customers can no longer convert basic arithmetic into an endless revenue stream, and balance has been restored. GameStop remains committed to offering promotions that reward our customers, and while we applaud the creativity, we gently remind everyone that our stores are not designed to function as infinite money printers.”
Going forward, nobody will be able to recreate this infinite money glitch, but at least one YouTuber was able to profit from this creative idea.
