Nintendo revealed a new entry in the Splatoon series coming at some point in the future called Splatoon Raiders. We don’t know a release date yet, but the game will be exclusive to the Nintendo Switch 2, so Switch 1 owners, sorry, you’ll have to upgrade to the new console for this adventure. What is Splatoon Raiders?
In Splatoon Raiders, your inkling accompanies Deep Cut to the Spirhalite Islands. The group apparently found a map in a basement that led them to follow some rumor within this area. While they didn’t say it in the trailer, we imagine this is all on the basis of finding treasure. You play as a mechanic, so you may use machines to help with various puzzles or encounters. Unfortunately, the surrounding details on what else this game is are quite sparse.
Looking at the few moments of gameplay shown in this trailer, we would guess that Splatoon Raiders is a single player game focused on its adventure, in contrast to the other Splatoon games which are multiplayer games first, with a campaign thrown in on the side. It may include cooperative play, but there was no indication of that in this initial trailer, unless player two can take control of the machine seen running alongside the inkling in here.
The announcement of Splatoon Raiders tells us that there definitely isn’t going to be a Nintendo Direct any time soon in June. Following the release of the Switch 2, this makes sense to us. With Donkey Kong Bananza set to release in July, the company may do a focused direct on that game closer to launch, but for big future announcements, we might be waiting until August or September for the next big Nintendo Direct.
