You may or may not have heard of a little game created by Dee Dee Creations LLC featuring a squirrel brandishing various firearms. This fun title conveniently called Squirrel with a Gun, surprised many with its strange concept. The entire game focuses on a squirrel that gets its tiny hands on different firearms, using them to take down various government agents. The entire concept is quite strange but one that many people, including us, love. In fact, the Squirrel with a Gun player count has already surpassed the player count of another title that was supposed to do much better than it did. That game, of course, is Concord.

For a bit of context, Concord was released by Firewalk Studios last week. Before it was released, the game had two beta access periods which saw very low player counts. The hero shooter was criticized for not having any stand-out features and lacking personality. Fast forward to the release date and the game saw an all-time peak player count of less than 700 players. Many questioned why the game cost $40 when many of its competitors are free-to-play games such as Overwatch 2.

Squirrel with a Gun was released today on August 29 and the player count has already hit nearly double what Concord managed to get on Steam within the week of its release. This shows that many are tired of the hero shooter genre of games and would like something else. That, or they would like a game to have a bit more personality than that of a Guardians of the Galaxy rip-off.

We don’t expect Squirrel with a Gun’s player count to rise much more than it already has but it is interesting to see a game created by such a small developer come out on top against a game backed by Sony. Maybe Sony should have chosen to back furious rodent instead.
