Battlefield 6 has undoubtedly taken the gaming industry by storm. With a very successful beta back in August and a strong launch in October, Battlefield 6 has shown that it has received the love and attention it deserves. Meanwhile, Activision and Treyarch have been doing everything they can to get attention on Black Ops 7 for its release later this month, even offering multiple free weekends for Black Ops 6 and an extension to the Black Ops 7 open beta. With all of this said, the battle between the two franchises is raging on, with information about the latest player counts across PC, Xbox, and PlayStation.
Despite Battlefield 6’s Success, Call of Duty is Still Top Ranking
CharlieIntel, a website dedicated to information about Call of Duty, recently shared information about the top-played games at the end of October, and the results are somewhat shocking. The information is according to Circana, and shows that Call of Duty was ranked second on the list of top-played games on both Xbox and PlayStation for the week ending on October 25, 2025. Meanwhile, Battlefield 6 was sitting seventh on the PlayStation list and fifth on the Xbox list. While Call of Duty maintained the lead, it shows that Battlefield 6 is not far behind in popularity.
In response to the post, user CodexCT shared information from Circana showing the top played Steam games across the US, Canada, and Mexico for the same week. These charts show that Battlefield 6 is sitting at the number one spot in both the US and Canada, and is sitting in second in Mexico. Call of Duty, however, didn’t make the list of the top 15 in any of the countries.
It is important to note that these charts only show Steam player counts and don’t account for those who are playing on other launchers such as BattleNet. A quick look at the Steam player counts for both games via Steamdb will show you that Black Ops 6 had player count peaks of around 50,000 during the week of October 25, and is currently seeing peaks of around 50,000 to 60,000. Meanwhile, Battlefield 6 saw player count peaks of around 360,000 during the week of October 25, and is currently seeing peaks of around 430,000.
It is difficult to say whether these numbers are due to fatigue of Black Ops 6 or the Black Ops series as a whole, as the numbers could shoot up when Black Ops 7 is released. After all, this could still be the honeymoon period for Battlefield, and the game could see a drop off of players shortly after its competitor hits the market.
