2026 is shaping up to be a big year for Sonic the Hedgehog. Considering that the series turns 35 this year, everyone has big expectations for what could be announced in terms of video games. We now have our first official new reveal for Sonic and friends, and it’s a jump into a new media form. The Chaotix Casefiles is a story podcast starring Sonic and the Chaotix as they work together to solve a mystery. It launches January 27 on podcast platforms.

The Chaotix Have a New Detective Story

The trailer above really nails how this podcast is going for a Noir-like story, and people are eating it up for multiple reasons. For starters, this is a highly unexpected turn of events, and we kind of love it. While the Chaotix team of Vector the Crocodile, Espio the Chameleon, and Charmy Bee is sparingly used these days, they are the perfect characters to work alongside Sonic in a radio drama.

The group is all silly detectives who can get serious at the right moment. Sure, it can be hard to take them seriously with Charmy’s voice buzzing through your ears, but Vector and Espio are legitimately enjoyable characters.

If you are unfamiliar, the Chaotix members have been around for quite some time. They made their debut in Knuckles’ Chaotix, a game made for the Sega 32X add-on for the Sega Genesis. Interestingly, even though Vector made his official debut there, he was originally concepted as a keyboard player for Sonic’s band before the original Sonic the Hedgehog game.

Since then, the Chaotix randomly pop up in games from time to time, like being side characters in Sonic Generations and a playable team in Sonic Heroes. This may be an odd way to kick off the 35th anniversary announcements, but we are all about weird side stories like this.
