Nintendo have started off using their new Nintendo Today app in a big way by announcing the The Legend of Zelda Movie release date. Right now, loading up the new app will show a short video showing the Triforce accompanied by the classic theme that doesn’t quite sound like the NES original, but still has a nostalgic mix to it. Currently, the film is set to debut in theaters on March 26, 2027. Unfortunately, we got no information on casting for the film yet, but with a release just two years away, we are likely to get that news later this year.

As of now, the release date for The Legend of Zelda Movie is just one of the very few things we know about the anticipated cinematic adventure. Wes Ball is directing. In the past he directed Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes and the Maze Runner trilogy. He has talked about being a big fan of Zelda in the past, but there have been no clues about what games from the series could be represented here. Nintendo is expected to have a big say in the movie’s direction, similar to The Super Mario Bros. Movie, and they will finance a large portion of it, with help from Sony.

With the Nintendo Switch 2 Direct five days away now, it seems that Nintendo will use the time until then to announce details for other projects. The Zelda Movie is definitely near the top for things we are most looking for outside of the new console, but the sequel to The Mario Movie could possibly be announced via the app as well. That’s the thing with Nintendo. Now that they have a new platform, we don’t really know what they are going to do with it.
