Just yesterday, we wrote about how Nintendo had announced the planned release date for The Legend of Zelda Movie in March 2027. Just 24 hours later, film insider Daniel Richtman is claiming The Legend of Zelda Movie is part of a trilogy of movies being planned, and the Film & Television Industry Alliance has posted a summary of the first movie, alongside a date that filming will begin in New Zealand on November 4 and run until April 7, 2026.
The Legend of Zelda Movie will be part of a trilogy?
On his patreon, Richtman says that all major actors for The Legend of Zelda Movie are signing on for three movies over the course of six years. The full cast is expected to be in place by this August, which would be a good time for Nintendo to announce the cast during a potential Nintendo Direct, similar to how they handled The Super Mario Bros. Movie.
The Legend of Zelda Movie project summary
Shifting gears over to the Production List report, we of course got the planned shooting dates between this coming November and April, and it will be filmed in New Zealand. The location for the shooting is not that surprising.
The page also gives us a project summary for the upcoming film, though it is a pretty basic explanation of what the Zelda games are in general and does not give anything away that we wouldn’t expect.
A live-action adaptation of the video game franchise. ‘The Legend of Zelda’ follows Link, a young warrior destined to protect the magical kingdom of Hyrule from the forces of darkness. The land is under threat from Ganon, a ruthless warlord who seeks the Triforce—an ancient relic said to grant limitless power. To stop him, Link must embark on a perilous journey, battling monstrous creatures, exploring treacherous dungeons, and solving intricate puzzles to uncover sacred artifacts that can aid him in his quest.
The Legend of Zelda Movie is easily our most anticipated movie to come over the next couple of years. Sure, there are ton of questions surrounding casting, whether Link will talk (he absolutely should and will), and the story of the adaptation, but we can’t wait to see what Nintendo and Sony come up with. Video game movies are in a much better space than they were even a decade ago, so until it is proven to be bad, we have faith in everyone involved.
