The Overwatch 2 community on Reddit is once again discussing what reasons remain that keep them coming back to the game. Some have gone so far as to wonder whether they will still be playing by the end of the upcoming Season 5, which has a fantasy theme.

Do you think you’ll stick with Overwatch after season 5?

The uncertainty has been building in the Overwatch fandom for a while now. Of course, the numerous Activision Blizzard controversies over the years play a part in it, but the Overwatch 2 community is wondering about the game itself.

After the recent announcement that PvE would be scaled back into a more traditional story experience released in parts, many have begun expressing their disappointment in a big way. Some reference the continued persistence of uneven matchmaking, with ranked games being complete blowouts from the beginning too often. Others say they still feel unrewarded by playing the game. These have arguably been the two biggest issues since launch.

It is important to note that Overwatch 2 still has reasons for people to play. For starters, there are many more in-game events now than in the past game, which is a welcomed change. Sure, not all are bell-ringers, but we appreciate that Blizzard is doing more experimental game modes. Also, the team consistently puts out updates that improve the experience.

Overwatch 2’s balance is also much better than it used to be. In the early days of Overwatch 1, there used to be no role queue, and teams could have multiples of one character. That kind of chaos led to equally frustrating experiences.

Overwatch 2 does not need to be the only video game you play. If you are not having a good time, then by all means you should take a break. You don’t owe Blizzard anything and are free to come back when a new update piques your interest again. For example, the recent release of Tears of the Kingdom essentially stripped away all of our time for Overwatch 2. With Season 5 starting soon, we plan on returning to try the new event and get the cool Tracer Mythic skins in the battle pass.
