Xbox Games Showcase 2024: 5 predictions for what we will see

Gamers always get a little more excited as the summer months start approaching. Of course, we all want to stay in our air-conditioned rooms and play games all day, but we also have exciting showcases that announce and reveal upcoming games to look forward to. On the Xbox side, the past few years have had quite a few promising Xbox Showcases. Not many of those games we have been promised have come out yet, but we expect more hype to be on the way now that it will feature Activision Blizzard, Bethesda, and Xbox Game Studios. Here are five predictions for what we will see at the Xbox Games Showcase 2024.

Xbox Games Showcase 2024 predictions

Fable gameplay and 2025 release window

Last year, Fable got a cinematic trailer displaying much of the same vibes we remember from the original Xbox and 360 days. Now that the series has been idle for well over a decade, we are ready to see how its return will wow us. At the bare minimum, we expect another gorgeously designed game from Playground Games, makers of the Forza Horizon games. For as long as we have been waiting to learn anything of substance about this game, we are hoping to get a good idea of what to expect for this series revival at the Xbox Games Showcase 2024.

World of Warcraft and other Blizzard PC games coming to Game Pass

Will World of Warcraft come to Game Pass at the Xbox Games Showcase 2024?

Now that Activision Blizzard is officially part of Xbox, we have only seen one of their games reach Game Pass to this point: Diablo IV. That’s a big get, but we would guess we will get a pretty big announcement of incoming games to the service at the 2024 Xbox Games Showcase, some available after the show, others coming in the future. We think the big headliner would be World of Warcraft. If you are subscribed to Game Pass Ultimate, you will have access to WoW, but we would also like to see Warcraft III, Starcraft, and other Diablo games make their way to the service. Now that there are reports that Xbox doesn’t know if they’ll put Call of Duty in Game Pass, it would be good to get clarification on what to expect for the future in general on Game Pass.

Something new from Double Fine

It’s now been a few years since Psychonauts 2 was released, and we think it’s perfect ground for Tim Schafer to reveal something new. Fans are terrified of Double Fine’s status following the Tango Gameworks and Arkane Austin closings, so showing a new game that is in the works at the Xbox Games Showcase 2024 and expected to come out within the next couple of years would be reassuring to us on the outside. Double Fine is notorious for making some of the most unique games in all of the industry, so a little more of their magic would be heavily welcomed.

Clockwork Revolution gameplay

Clockwork Revolution is one of those new upcoming games from Xbox that really has us excited to see what its about. We want to learn more about inXile’s new game, even if it is still a couple of years away. We instantly bought into its world and are hoping to see any footage of it shown off.

Doom: Year Zero revealed

Will the new Doom game make an appearance at the Xbox Games Showcase 2024?

Doom Eternal came out more than four years ago, and since then, all we have heard about the franchise is the massive Bethesda leak that said id Software was working on a game called Doom: Year Zero. We wouldn’t expect anything much more than a cinematic trailer at the Xbox Games Showcase 2024 showing what the game is or merely tease its full reveal at QuakeCon later in the year. Our guess is a full remake of the original Doom, similar to Final Fantasy VII Remake.

Extra prediction: games we will NOT see at the show

Here is a list of previously announced Xbox-owned games that we expect not to show up at the show:

  • Blade – With Indiana Jones and the Great Circle being the big game this year, we think Blade will be waiting a while before he gets the spotlight.
  • Contraband – It wouldn’t surprise us if Contraband was canceled with how literally nothing has been said about it since its teaser trailer.
  • Everwild – Do we even know what Everwild is? Is Rare even still working on it? Will they ever do more than Sea of Thieves again? Who knows, but we’re not quite sold on this game coming out.
  • Elder Scrolls VI – The Starfield expansion will likely be all we hear from Todd Howard.
  • Perfect Dark – If we are unsure about Everwild ever releasing, that goes double for Perfect Dark. Recent reports say that things are still not going well for the game. We’re starting to wonder if it will ever be actually revealed, let alone come out.
  • South of Midnight – Nothing to back up this. We’re interested, and would be happy to see what South of Midnight is after its reveal last year. Xbox just tends to reveal its games, and then disappear for years at a time. This very easily could be the same story with Clockwork Revolution.
  • State of Decay 3 – We will be very happy to be wrong about this one, but the radio silence on State of Decay 3 for the last couple of years isn’t filling us with much hope.
  • The Outer Worlds 2 – We would love to see more Outer Worlds sequel talk, but it is likely way too early. Plus, Obsidian’s focus will be more on Avowed.
