IO Interactive has finally come out of the dark to say that their upcoming James Bond game, now titled 007 First Light, will be finally unveiled this week. The development team posted the image below on Twitter that features the silhouette of their new take on young Bond, alongside the hashtag, Earn the Number, which will be the marketing language used to convey how this is an origin story of sorts surrounding the spy.
Where will the 007 First Light reveal be?
While the post says the reveal is coming this week, it doesn’t say at what show. With Summer Game Fest happening this Friday, that is the safe thinking, but you would think either IO or SGF would say it was being shown there on either of their posts. If this was just a self-published thing, you would also expect a time and date. Given that neither of those have happened, we would theorize that a recently rumored PlayStation State of Play is set to be announced and that’s where it will appear. That’s just speculation, though.
IO Interactive first announced its partnership with MGM, Delphi, and EON about four and a half years ago, in November 2020. Since then, outside of some hiring announcements, the studio has been almost completely quiet on the game outside of appearing at the Nintendo Switch 2 Direct earlier this year confirming it was coming to the new console, as well as PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X.
While four years isn’t necessarily as long as other games that were announced far too early with nothing shown, it is nice to finally learn more about what is coming from the Hitman developers. The World of Assassination trilogy was one of the biggest highlights from us over the last decade, so we are incredibly excited to see how Bond’s origin story is handled. There are big expectations for the upcoming game, so hopefully we get more than a story trailer and can actually see how much the gameplay has transitioned from behind Agent 47 to Bond.
