Wuchang: Fallen Feathers is full of mystery from the cryptic story to the sometimes odd items that you find. Being a Soulslike title, it is rather consistent with gameplay mechanics and enemy types, with one enemy type being the predatory Mimic. These creatures lie in wait for their prey to happen upon them and strike when they least expect it, but how do you spot a mimic in Wuchang: Fallen Feathers? There must be some way to tell where a Mimic is and when you are safe to rest. Let’s break it down.
How to spot a Shrine Mimic in Wuchang: Fallen Feathers

Unlike other Souslike titles that typically set up their Mimics as chests or other booby trapped objects, the mimics in Wuchang: Fallen Feathers are Shrines – the very items you use to rest. That is a new form of low, even for a Soulslike title. However, there is a simple way to tell when you are about to get attacked by one of these horrific Shrine enemies.

A normal Shrine in Wuchang: Fallen Feathers will have this instrument in the hands of the man in the middle. This will indicate that the Shrine is safe to sit at and won’t cause you any harm. If you do not see this instrument, the Shrine is a mimic and will attack you.
You don’t need to worry about a Mimic attacking you on sight. You can walk around a Mimic Shrine without wondering whether it will suddenly get up and assault you. However, if you decide to worship at the Shrine, it will pick you up and throw you, before standing up and proceeding to attack.
The best way to avoid this is to attack the Mimic first. This will give you plenty of time to deal a good chunk of damage before it can pull itself out of the ground and start attacking. Once you have defeated the Mimic Shrine, it will disappear and become a normal Shrine that you can rest at.
