It’s no secret that video games continue to grow as the years go by. Never-ending worlds, complex features, and cutting-edge graphics will continue filling up your storage drive. With all that in mind, you already know that Starfield will take up quite a bit of space. Here is how big the Starfield preload file size is.
What is the Starfield storage space requirements?
At the time of this writing, Starfield’s preload file size requires 139.8 GB on PC and 100.18 GB on Xbox Series X to pre-install. This is the early installation, so people can get into the game much faster when it launches on September 6. You should expect a day one update to go live in the days leading up to the release that you will need to install as well. You will likely need more space when that happens, but there is no telling how much until it is available.
Considering that the game is supposed to be a gigantic game with all kinds of moving parts, the Starfield preload file size requirements aren’t too terrible. If you plan to play on an Xbox Series S and have no external SSD drive, this will take up a big portion of your storage, but we always knew Starfield would be a big game. Compare it to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, a much smaller game in scope, but requires nearly 150 GB.
As games continue to grow and become these epic adventures, they inevitably take up a lot of installation space. It is unfortunate for gamers that like to have as many games as possible installed, but it’s just a harsh reality of where gaming is. Everyone wants to make the next big thing, so it is up to you to choose what is worth your time on your system.
