FromSoftware has always been somewhat obscure in how it approaches some aspects of its games, such as storytelling, dialogue, quest progression, and other gameplay mechanics. These unconventional, non-linear aspects of its games have become part of why people adore them so much, but they can cause confusion for a few players. With the arrival of Elden Ring’s highly anticipated expansion, Shadow of The Erdtree, some may be confused about how to access the expansion and its contents. Here is how to access the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion in Elden Ring.
How to access Shadow of the Erd Tree in Elden Ring
There are two bosses that players must have beaten to access the expansion: Starscourge Radahn and Mohg, Lord of Blood. Both of these bosses were optional in the main game, so there is a chance that some players may have missed them. The first boss that players should fight is Starscourge Radahn. Radahn’s boss fight can be accessed through Redmane Castle in Caelid, which is in the southeast portion of the map. Players can fight Radahn through Ranni’s questline or by activating the Grand Lift of Dectus in Lirunia.

Once players have beaten Radahn, they also must beat Mohg, Lord of Blood. In the game, there are two boss fights with Mohg. Defeating Mohg, the Omen, beneath the capital in the Subterranean Shunning Grounds, will not give access to the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC. Instead, players must rather find Mohg, Lord of Blood, in Mohgwyn Palace.
To access the palace, players must have access to the Consecrated Snowfields, an area found in the mid-late game. In the western snowfields, players will find a teleporter that will teleport their characters to the palace. Before reaching the teleporter, players will be invaded by an NPC invader; players must kill the invader to use the teleporter. From there, players must make their way through the area until they reach the boss fight with Mohg.

Where next?
Once players have defeated Mohg, they may interact with Miquella, which should grant access to the expansion. Radahn and Mohg are no easy task, and neither is the new expansion. While Radahn can be easily defeated around level 70-80 and Mohg around level 100, we suggest that players take on these tasks around level 100+ to be more prepared for the challenges that await them in the Shadow of The Erdtree.
