There are a lot of items for you to find and creatures to catch in Monster Hunter Wilds. One of the more evasive critters hanging out in the plains is the Sandstar. This creature stands out amongst the sands but often runs away if you get too close. To get your hands on it and get the “I Caught a Shooting Star” achievement, you will need to be crafty and use the tools you have in your hunter’s arsenal. Let’s break down how to catch a Sandstar in Monster Hunter Wilds.

Sandstar location in Monster Hunter Wilds

The Sandstar is located in Area 13 of the Windward Plains biome. This is the first biome you traverse in the game so you will automatically have it unlocked. The Sandstar can only be found at nighttime or in the evening, so you will need to either wait for dark to roll around or start a hunt that takes place at night, such as the Balahara hunt.

Once you reach area 13 of the Windward Plains, head to the area near the oasis. We could the Sandstar close to where area 13 connects to area 16 so try searching there first.

How to catch the Sandstar in Monster Hunter Wilds

To get your hands on the Sandstar, you will need to use Screamer Pods. You might remember this item from the intro of the game. When you spot a Sandstar out in the desert, it will run away when you get close. This happens if you use the Ghillie Suit as well, so just stick with using the Screamer Pods to stun it before it can get away.

After the critter is stunned, quickly swap over to your capture net and use it to catch the Sandstar. Once you have it in the net, you will get the “I Caught a Shooting Star” achievement. You will also be able to complete Samin’s Special Research Report.
