How to catch the Sandstar in Monster Hunter Wilds
To get your hands on the Sandstar, you will need to use Screamer Pods. You might remember this item from the intro of the game. When you spot a Sandstar out in the desert, it will run away when you get close. This happens if you use the Ghillie Suit as well, so just stick with using the Screamer Pods to stun it before it can get away.

After the critter is stunned, quickly swap over to your capture net and use it to catch the Sandstar. Once you have it in the net, you will get the “I Caught a Shooting Star” achievement. You will also be able to complete Samin’s Special Research Report.
