Sea of Stars is the latest RPG to release in 2023 with a plethora of great reviews. Being made by the same studio that brought you The Messenger, it’s not necessarily a huge surprise that it seems to be a quality game. That said, money is tight these days for a lot of people. If you are saving money, how can you play the game? Is Sea of Stars free?
Can you play Sea of Stars for free?
Being an indie-developed title and a single-player one at that, Sea of Stars is not free. However, there are ways to play the game without outright purchasing it. The game is currently available to download for no additional purchase for Xbox Game Pass (console and PC) and PlayStation Plus Extra subscribers. Unfortunately, Nintendo Switch users are the only ones without a method of playing the game for “free.” If you do not subscribe to those services, the game can be purchased for $34.99 on all available storefronts. Compared to the many other large RPGs that have come out this year, that’s not a terrible price point.
As of this writing, there is no timetable for how long Sea of Stars will be available in Game Pass and PS+. Generally, games that release day one on these services have at least a decent timeline where they are available. You shouldn’t feel like you are pushed to complete the game any time soon, but we highly doubt it will be there forever. Speaking speculatively, we would give the game about a year on both before it is removed.
Of course, the above is just speculation. Sea of Stars could be on Game Pass and PS+ for a very long time. Typically, we do not know when titles are removed from the service until the weeks leading up to those removals. In the meantime, be sure to play the game and enjoy it without having to put the full price on your card.
