With the Nintendo Switch 2 here, owners of the original console will likely be wondering what they can carry over from the first Switch. Luckily, a lot of games and accessories can be used on the Switch 2, but not everything. Here is a list of the Nintendo Switch accessory compatibility with the Switch 2.
Nintendo Switch accessory compatible list
Here is the list of accessories bought for your Nintendo Switch that will work for the Switch 2.
- Joy-con controllers (only wirelessly, can not be attached)
- Pro controller
- NES wireless controller
- SNES wireless controller
- N64 wireless controller
- Sega Genesis wireless controller
- GameCube controller adapter
In contrast, here are the accessories that do not work with the Nintendo Switch 2. Note: for some of these items, they just mean they won’t work with Switch 2 joy-con, but will work with the Switch 1 controllers.
- Adjustable charging stand
- Switch 1 dock
- Switch 1 AC adapter
- Switch 1 HDMI cable (Nintendo say the standards differ, but we can not confirm this outright doesn’t work yet)
- MicroSD cards (only can be used to view videos and screenshots, games much be stored and played on microSD Express cards)
- Switch 1 joy-con strap
- Switch 1 joy-con grip/charging grip
- Switch 1 joy-con wheel
- Ring-con (incompatible with Switch 2 joy-con, but will still work with your Switch 1 joy-con to play Ring Fit Adventure on Switch 2)
- Joy-con battery pack
- Switch 1 joy-con charging stand
In addition to the items above, you can expect any Labo creations to not work with the new joy-con, as the size difference will make it impossible to fit in without breaking.
Overall, the most important things that work with the Switch 2 are all of your controllers from the first console. If you bought any of the NSO special controllers, they will work just fine.
