The Assassin’s Creed games are no strangers to jumping around to various eras in human history. In the past, we have taken part in everything from ancient Greece to the Revolutionary War in America. Now that we have seen a few games adapt to being a larger RPG, the series is returning to its roots for Assassin’s Creed Mirage. With all of that said, where is AC Mirage set?
Where does Assassin’s Creed Mirage take place?
Assassin’s Creed Mirage takes place in Baghdad, Iraq. The timing for this game is in the ninth century during the anarchy of Samarra. While Baghdad is the main focus, players will also occasionally step outside of the city’s walls, but a large majority of the game takes place within.
In Mirage, we are playing as Basim, a character introduced in 2020’s Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. If you have played through that game, you will know that Basim is an accomplished assassin who has a very long lifespan. Mirage will be focusing on the start of his partnership with the Hidden Ones as he transitions from street thief to assassin.
While the game is bringing back a character from Valhalla, the gameplay is more reminiscent of the mainline series before Origins, Odyssey, and Valhalla. The map will be quite large but not overly expansive. The focus won’t be like recent games where they were RPG games that take dozens of hours to complete. Instead, there will be more stealthy adventure gameplay. You should recognize the playstyle if you played any games in this series between the first all the way through Syndicate.
When Assassin’s Creed Mirage releases, we will see if the return to classic gameplay in the Baghdad setting is just what the series needed. It will definitely be fun to run around a new city again.
