The Backyard Sports franchise is officially back with a new teaser trailer showing off many of your favorite kids playing some baseball, including the legend himself, Pablo Sanchez. While there is no word on a release date for a new Backyard Baseball game, the trailer definitely nails the classic aesthetic these games had during their run in the 2000s.
The original Backyard Sports games were cartoonish and arcadey to a degree that made them enjoyable for everyone, even if you weren’t a great fan of the sport you were playing. A group of neighborhood kids gathered in various lots of yards would play the sports accompanied by child versions of pros who joined in. As of now, there’s no mention of current-day MLB stars being included in a new Backyard Baseball game, but we would be shocked if players like Shohei Ohtani, Juan Soto, and Paul Skenes weren’t included.
As you might expect, in a sports game, every kid has different stats that make them better in various areas of the game. The clumsy Pete Wheeler may not have great accuracy, but he was the fastest runner in the game. Pablo Sanchez, as mentioned above, was a true star and had the best stats in most areas of the game. The games also feature funny commentary and voice lines from the various kids when they make an impact on the game.
We are so excited to see a new Backyard Baseball game on its way. We would imagine its hoping to be released by next spring for all current consoles and PC, but as of this writing, we don’t know for sure. We imagine football, hockey, and basketball will be coming back at some point as well, but baseball was definitely the most popular game in this series, so that likely had to do with this trailer being so focused there.
