One of the most well-known features of the Borderlands series is that there are always four new playable Vault Hunter characters in each game. That has been a constant in the series. The previous games’ characters typically end up becoming part of the story. With that being said, it was revealed at PAX West that there would indeed be four new playable characters in Borderlands 4. Of course, there was no additional information revealed about these characters, leaving players to guess who they might get to play as in the next game when it is released. So what new characters are you expecting in Borderlands 4? Let’s break down some thoughts.
Some are saying an Eridian should be playable
The Eridians are a “supposedly extinct” race in the Borderlands universe. They lived long ago, built the vaults, and protected them by creating the Guardians. We know surprisingly little about the Eridians considering their creations are the main driving force for the protagonists in each game. With all of that being said, we are travelling to a world that hasn’t been seen in a very long time in Borderlands 4 and has been hidden behind a cloaking device. Some believe this is the home of the Eridians and that we may finally get a playable Eridian character.
There isn’t anything to go off to support the idea that one of the new characters in Borderlands 4 will be an Eridian but we think it would be cool to see some sort of high-tech action skill based on the powers of the Guardians. Perhaps they will have some form of telekinesis or we could see something involving a staff like the Guardians use. At the very least, the power will most likely have some sort of involvement with Eridium.
What about the new Siren?
For those who need a quick refresher on their Borderlands lore. There are six Sirens in the universe. When one loses their powers, they can choose their successor. If no one is chosen, their powers are given to a random individual. The Sirens that are currently alive are Ava, Tannis, and Amara. Lilith is presumed to be alive but nothing is confirmed. We also know that there is a supposed seventh Siren as told to us by Nyriad in the Borderlands 3 tapes.
With all of that build-up, if we include Lilith in the alive category, there are still three Sirens floating around the universe. We can assume that we won’t be playing as the mysterious “seventh Siren,” which means that there are two others: whoever received Tyreen’s power and one with unknown powers. Many don’t want to play the game as Ava, so we could possibly rule her out as a playable character. Plus, her powers have been showcased in Borderlands 2 thanks to Maya.
We assume that the next playable Siren will have Commandant Steele’s powers which are still unknown but rumored to be the control of plant and animal life. Perhaps, since there are Siren powers that allow you to sap life, another Siren’s ability allows you to create life in the form of plants. This could allow you to attack using vines by holding enemies, piecing them, or even throwing them.
