The price increase for games announced by multiple companies has already caused an uproar in the gaming community. Many consumers don’t want to pay upwards of $80 for upcoming titles, especially when they think it isn’t worth it. While one of the biggest culprits is Nintendo, initiating the price hikes earlier this year by announcing Mario Kart World would be $80 at launch, other development companies are starting to feel the effects. One company, for instance, is Gearbox. Many fans are already saying they won’t pay $80 for Borderlands 4.

Borderlands fans disagree with possible Borderlands 4 price

It is important to note that Randy Pitchford or Gearbox has not stated what the price for Borderlands 4 is yet. When asked about the price at PAX East, Pitchford stated he wasn’t sure what the price would be, thanks to the evolving market. When pushed about the price on X, Pitchford stated, “If you’re a real fan, you’ll find a way to make it happen.”

Pitchford has since received backlash about the comment on X, but fans are still not ready to accept the possible $80 price. Some angry fans took to the Borderlands SubReddit, saying, “There’s no way I’m paying $80.”

The post is filled with comments of players agreeing with the sentiment of not spending the money on the upcoming Borderlands title. Many said they would much rather wait for a sale, and that all of the Borderlands titles since Borderlands 3 have been on sale within a few months of the release.

Some fans also stated that they wouldn’t be against the price if Pitchford were more open about it being a possibility, rather than telling players that if they are real fans, they will put up with the price and get it anyway. It is clear that fans are not trusting that Gearbox is going to make an experience worthy of the possible $80 price tag.
