Polish development team People Can Fly is now working on Gears of War: E-Day alongside The Coalition. The team announced the partnership today in a short blog. This is not their first experience with Marcus and the Gears, as they helped Epic Games with the original trilogy and were lead developers on Gears of War: Judgement.

While it has been a long time since People Can Fly had their hands on Gears of War, long-time fans of the franchise will likely be excited to hear a team associated with the original trilogy is returning, though we doubt many creatives from that long ago are still present. Regardless, having that relationship with Microsoft obviously helped bring them into the current project.

What does People Can Fly mean for Gears of War: E-Day?

With Gears of War: E-Day being announced just last summer, we can’t say that People Can Fly joining the team signals any development issues. Speaking speculatively, this looks like Microsoft would like to expedite the development of the game on other platforms. While The Coalition focuses on the Xbox and PC versions, People Can Fly will likely bring their expertise from developing games for PlayStation and maybe work on a Switch 2 version as well. This move could help to prevent a forecasted delay to work on those versions.

We are more interested in knowing what this means for Project Maverick. In 2023, People Can Fly signed an agreement with Microsoft for a new game with a budget between $30-50 million. With this new announcement, we wonder if that game may have been canceled, and the team was moved over to focus on Gears of War: E-Day. Of course, there is no official announcement on that, so that game could still be in development.
