PlayStation has had its fair share of ups and downs when it comes to their most recent attempts in the live service game world. We’ve seen two ends of the spectrum here when it comes to a game like Helldivers 2 and a game like Concord. One went on to find positive fan reception and is still chugging along today while the other sank rather fast.
But Helldivers 2 is back in the spotlight of the gaming world once more when Arrowhead’s community manager Thomas “Twinbeard” Peterson responded to fans in their official discord server who requested an Xbox port of the game and the possibility of such a thing happening.
“Who says it couldn’t? It’s not up to us but to Sony and Phil to duke out, but hypothetically speaking, if both partners think it would benefit them from a financial/brand standpoint, it could. If Sony believes it won’t though, it won’t,”
In the past we’ve seen Microsoft and Xbox take this multi platform approach with some of their games like Hi-Fi Rush, Pentiment, Grounded and Sea of Thieves. Two out of the four games mentioned are live service games that need a consistent yet growing playerbase to thrive and continue to rake in the money for their respective developers.Phil Spencer himself in the past was keen on this idea to bring Helldivers 2 to the Xbox platform seeing how it would be a win-win situation all around.
In the meantime Xbox fans will have to settle for the likes of this Halo Infinite spin-off aptly titled Hell Jumpers which is aiming to come out on October 25th thanks to the Forge Falcons team. On the flip side of all this, given their recent track record and a new change of heart when it comes to multi platform games PlayStation and SONY should heavily consider bringing over this beloved yet chaotic co-op shooter to Xbox in order to breathe new life into this game.
