With N7 day in the rear view, many fans were eagerly awaiting to hear what will be coming next from Bioware in regards to the Mass Effect franchise. It wasn’t too long ago where we got a brand new teaser trailer that indicated a new game was indeed in the works, but since then, things in this universe have gone radio silent, in large part due to Dragon Age: The Veilguard’s recent release. A recent Bioware blog post warned fans things would be quieter this year, but it seems that a Mass Effect TV series is in the works.
A new report coming from Variety says that a Mass Effect TV series is officially in development at Amazon MGM studios. As far as the show’s production crew goes, Daniel Casey, who most recently worked on F9: The Fast Saga film, is set to write and executive produce this adaptation. Karim Zreik and Ari Arad will also be executive producers along with EA’s Michael Gamble as well. It looks like this team has a very big undertaking about them seeing how the Mass Effect universe is rich with lore and gripping stories.
It seems that the show has gone through its fair share of turbulence seeing how back in 2021 it was reported that Amazon was in negotiations to develop the Mass Effect TV series with no update until this very moment. Through the years, there has been a good amount of attempts to develop a feature film based around the games, but they obviously never came to be. Details around the show and its plot are scarce at this point in time, but following this announcement it’s only a matter of time before official castings and plot details are revealed.
Mass Effect first launched all the way back in 2007 to stellar reviews. Since then we have seen multiple entries in the series that centered around Commander Shepard and his fight to save humanity from the impending threat of the reapers. The series’ most recent entry, Mass Effect: Andromeda, spawned a new branch in this universe’s story and garnered divisive takes from fans of the franchise. The fan reception led to the Mass Effect IP being put on ice for years, but one can only hope with a new game and this brand new show that brighter days are ahead for the world of Mass Effect and its fanbase.
