There has been a lot of speculation around the Nintendo Switch 2 with the biggest culprit of it being the Joy-Con controllers. The latest leak for the system had someone showcase an in-depth look at one of the Joy-Con controllers. Fans immediately spotted something strange about the controller which they said looked like an optical sensor. This sparked the “mouse” theory which has many believing that the new function of these controllers is to operate like a computer mouse. After trying it ourselves, we can see why this would be effective. Now the same leaker who revealed images of the Nintendo Switch 2 over Christmas might have just confirmed this Joy-Con “mouse” theory.
In case you missed it, while many were taking their Christmas break, one leaker posted images of the Nintendo Switch 2 over X and Reddit. This individual is known as NextHandHeld and the images were pretty convincing. Along with that, the case manufacturer PlayVital also posted about its new Nintendo Switch 2 case, revealing more about the console’s design.
NextHandHeld seemingly confirms Switch 2 Joy-Con “mouse” theory
Talks of the “mouse” theory have been abundant on the NintendoSwitch2 SubReddit. Recently, user Ravrie posted about a response given by NextHandHeld – the same leaker who posted the images of the Nintendo Switch 2 console. One user asked, “I’ve heard about some kind of gimmick with the top of the thumbstick. Do you know if any of that is true?” NextHandHeld responded, “There’s a special orientation you can use the Joy-Cons that’s unlike before.”
Ravrie chimed in asking, “Are you able to tell us if this special orientation is referring to the “mouse” leaks that are going around?” NextHandHeld then responded, “Yeah but devs can answer this better as they’ve seen some mini-game demos that I guess would be best described as Mario Party / WarioWare-esque in nature where you can control a snake.”
Many were wondering why the Switch 2 Joy-Cons would have the capability to be used like a computer mouse. Some immediately thought about games like The Sims and Mario Maker that require you to select specific objects. Being required to maneuver an object or manipulate something in a program makes it more likely that the theory could be true. There is no guarantee that this will be included in the final design of the Switch 2 but the new gimmick would give Nintendo more to work with in games. Like always, take this with a grain of salt since Nintendo has yet to reveal the system.
