Nintendo Switch 2 Scalpers More Tame than Normal; Selling Console Images to Bots

The Nintendo Switch 2 pre-order date for the US is finally here, and you know what that means. It means websites with poor loading times, as consumers rush to be among the first to claim a system for themselves. It also means that scalpers – the bane of every gamer’s existence- come out of the woodwork to snag as many systems as possible and sell them for double, or even triple, the price. Surprisingly, while the scalpers do exist, they are more tame than normal. Not going out of their way to sell the Switch 2 console for much more than they bought it.

Nintendo Switch 2 scalpers are more tame

We see it every time a new console drops. Scalpers buy up their fair share and sell them back to desperate gamers for a markup. When it came to the PS5, you could find them on eBay for over $1,000 despite the MSRP being $500. While the Nintendo Switch 2 is very much sought after, the scalpers that normally charge exorbitant prices are being more tame. After searching through eBay, we saw some major outliers, most were selling the Switch 2 for around $600 – $700, much less than what scalpers normally try to get.

This isn’t us defending the scalpers. We don’t believe they should be reselling the console. It just seems strange. Perhaps all the talk of the Switch 2 being overpriced as it is made the scalpers think twice about what prices they would be charging.

Switch 2 scalpers selling pictures of consoles

This is another tactic we have seen before with the PS5. Scalpers are selling images of the Nintendo Switch 2. Some of the listings on eBay tell the customer to check the description. Doing so will reveal that they are purchasing a PNG or JPEG of the Nintendo Switch 2 and not the actual console. While many don’t condone this activity, it has proven to be an effective means of combating scammers who attempt to purchase items from eBay only to not have the payment go through.

We don’t condone scalpers reselling the Nintendo Switch 2 to make a profit. Waves of Switch 2 pre-orders have been popping up on Walmart’s website. We have also noticed that there have been various waves of pre-orders for the UK, which could show that more consoles will be made available over time. Keep this in mind and be on the lookout if you haven’t been able to snag one yet.
